Katherine Heigl gone from Grey's Anatomy

Although Katherine Heigl was scheduled to return to the 'Grey's Anatomy' set March 1 after three months of maternity leave, "she was not there," a source has told People magazine.

Sources also told Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello that 'Anatomy' creator Shonda Rhimes has agreed to release Heigl from her contract. ABC Studios and Heigl's reps will then hash out a final exit agreement.

According to one EW source, Heigl "was at home and ready to return to work." Heigl had been home taking care of her new baby, Naleigh, whom she and husband Josh Kelley adopted from South Korea. The special-needs child "was actually born the day before me in November, which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign," Heigl, 30, said when announcing the news of her adoption on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' back in September.

But another source adds that "talks between Heigl and ABC have been going on for months and last week both sides mutually decided that the best solution would be to part ways now as opposed to at the end of the season."

As a result, Heigl is not expected to return to the 'Grey's' set, which means her final episode as Izzie has already aired.
